EMR (Emergency Medical Response) - Classroom and laboratory instruction includes assessment of the patient, airway management, CPR, automated external defibrillator, hemorrhage control, bandaging, splinting, and childbirth. Upon successful completion of this course, the student is eligible to take additional courses to become a Louisiana Emergency Medical Responder.
NCCER CORE (The National Center for Construction Education and Research) - The NCCER Core Curriculum is a prerequisite to all other Level 1 craft curriculum. Its modules cover topics such as Basic Safety, Communication Skills and Introduction to Construction Drawings. Completing this curriculum gives the trainee the basic skills needed to continue education in any craft area he or she chooses.
Photography-High school photography courses introduce students to the technical and creative fundamentals of image-making. Students learn to use manual camera settings (the "exposure triangle"), apply principles of composition, and edit digital or film photographs. The curriculum also covers photography history, visual storytelling, and portfolio development
Media Arts-High school Media Arts courses combine traditional artistic principles with digital technology. Students learn industry-standard software to produce graphic designs, digital photography, animations, and audio/video projects. The curriculum emphasizes visual storytelling, media literacy, and practical portfolio building for college and career readiness.
Physical Education & Health (P.E.) 1 & 2 - designed to practice and develop skills in activities that help students maintain fitness throughout their life. Students will understand the benefits that regular exercise can provide for a person's mental, physical, and social health.
Health Occupations - This course serves as an introduction to various health care settings and various health careers while teaching students valuable communication and clinical skills to help prepare them for their future in the health field post-graduation from high school.
BCA (Business Computer Applications) - In this course, high school students can acquire skills required to create, edit, and publish industry appropriate documents. Areas of study will also include oral and written communications and information research for reporting purposes. Create, format, and edit error-free documents using word processing software
Speech- provides the study of and practice in the basic principles and techniques of effective oral communication. This course includes instruction in adapting speech to different audiences and purposes. ... This course emphasizes research using technology and careful organization and preparation.
Carpentry 1 & 2 (After successful completion of NCCER CORE) - This is an introductory class in carpentry, designed to give an overview of the various components of residential construction and building techniques used throughout the country. Students will learn about and use basic hand tools and power tools with much emphasis on maintenance and safe operation of these tools. They will learn about standard lumber, engineered lumber, nails, fasteners, sheathing materials and various other building materials that are utilized in the construction industry. Carpentry students will also gain a better understanding of Math practices that are commonly used in the construction industry.
Medical Terminology (prerequisite to CNA) - is designed to introduce students to the structure of medical terms, including prefixes, suffixes, word roots, combining forms, and singular and plural forms, plus medical abbreviations and acronyms. The course allows students to achieve comprehension of medical vocabulary appropriate to medical procedures, human anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology. When a student chooses to pursue a career in health science, they should learn to reason, think critically, make decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Students should understand that quality health care depends on the ability to work well with others.
Firefighter- High school firefighter programs are hands-on, Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses that prepare students to become certified first responders. Students learn essential rescue tactics, hazardous materials management, and fire suppression to meet professional certification standards before graduation.
Spanish I & II - is a broad-based course designed to introduce the student to all aspects of foreign language study. Grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills are included. Cultural information is provided and taught throughout the duration of the course. Students will do research on various cultural topics. This is achieved by groups, partners and individual practice dependent on the subject. Emphasis is placed on conversation, vocabulary and correct usage of the language. Correct pronunciation and oral proficiency are primary goals. This requires a daily emphasis on listening and speaking. The classroom experience will provide an appreciation and development of cultural awareness through various readings, media resources and authentic materials.
Baking & Pastry- A high school baking and pastry course is a hands-on Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway. Students learn commercial kitchen fundamentals, food science, and pastry production. The curriculum covers ingredient functions, recipe scaling, and safety certifications, preparing students for culinary careers or post-secondary programs.
Pro-Start - ProStart® is a career and technical education program that unites the foodservice industry and the classroom to teach high school students’ culinary skills and restaurant management principles, as well as employability skills such as communication, teamwork, professionalism and time management.
Publications-Yearbook is an elective course that gives students marketable experience in print media publishing. This course solely works toward the completion and selling of a large finished product, Red River High School’s yearbook. Yearbook class is different from every course taught at this school in that it is a real business maintaining an account that must balance-out at the end of term. In class, students compose, construct, and edit all elements of computerized text layout, graphic art, and digital photography. Students work on many clerical operations, make announcements, maintain signs, conduct student polls, take photos, and write articles.
Vertical Workplace-The Vertical Workplace (or Virtual Workplace Experience) is a high school course designed to prepare students for modern careers through project-based learning and interactions with industry mentors. Students build essential professional skills—such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving—through virtual platforms and real-time workplace scenarios.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – (After Successful Completion of First Responder or Health Occupations or Medical Terms) CNA classes cover basic patient care, infection control, nutrition, anatomy, communications and documentation, safety and emergency procedures, and patient rights. Students also receive hands-on training in performing basic nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, moving patients, and providing personal care.
Certified Medical Assistant – (After Successful Completion of CNA) This course presents introductory level procedures for assisting the physician with patient/client examination. Instruction includes an introduction to medical assisting, certification requirements, orientation to the laboratory, and progresses through theory and techniques utilized by the medical assistant. Content includes communication skills, infection control, aseptic technique, and progresses to office procedures, room preparation, patient/client assessment and education, nutrition, inventory, and equipment maintenance. Competency examination for patient/client history, biohazardous spill, contaminated glove removal, handwashing, vital signs, positioning and draping, and specialty examinations are included.
Agriculture Science - Students will gain introductory knowledge on several concepts within agriculture, focusing primarily on animal and plant production. Students will be assessed using projects and written examinations focusing on applying knowledge.
Welding 1 & 2 – (After Successful Completion of NCCER CORE) Welding is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to effectively perform cutting and welding applications used in the advanced manufacturing industry. Proficient students will develop proficiency in fundamental safety practices in welding, interpreting drawings, creating computer aided drawings, identifying and using joint designs, efficiently laying out parts for fabrication, basic shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), mechanical and thermal properties of metals, and quality control.
ACT Preparation (Prep)-An ACT Prep course is designed to help high school students maximize their college entrance exam scores. The curriculum focuses on comprehensive subject reviews (English, Math, Reading, and Science), essential time-management pacing, and targeted test-taking strategies to reduce exam anxiety
